Cub Scout Banquet

This is my attempt at decorating a cake. See I'm one of those mom's that has really talented friends so when I have birthday parties for my kids I have my friends make the cake. Anyway - we had to have a new hot water heater installed at our home so since I would have to be at home I thought I'd try to be one of those really cool moms that do stuff like this. This is for RTC's first Cub Scout Blue & Gold Banquet tonight. Everyone is supposed to bring a cake. That was the requirement. Store bought, homemade, it didn't matter, everyone is just supposed to bring a cake.

RTC seemed happy with my attempt. Hindsight is always 20/20 so I see stuff I'd like to change, but for my first attempt I'm pretty happy with it.

My friends aren't off the hook for birthday cakes though!

Walking

Do you know what this is? That's right this is half of my new exercise shoes!!! To say I'm excited about these would be an understatement. What I should have posted was the bottom of my old workout shoes (they were tread bare) then you'd really understand why I'm excited about tennis shoes. However those shoes have already been sent out to pasture. They were really tired...

I try to walk at least 4 times a week. I'm usually out the door by 5:20 am and walk 2 - 3 miles. I'm usually successful 3 times a week. Recently I've added attending a Zumba class twice a week in the evenings. Now you know why those shoes were tired.

Surprise for spring break

No - we're not newlyweds, well technically, any more.
No - we're not students any more either.
But because we have kids in school we celebrate spring break!

We started by meeting family and the kids got to spend the week with their grandmother & aunt. Yay for them!

Now for the surprise...

a few years ago we started celebrating our anniversary with a bed and breakfast overnight stay after a wonderfully magnificent meal. This will be our 23rd wedding anniversary come April! Doesn't seem possible does it.  Anyway, as a surprise he whisked me away to my favorite room there...

the Alma Mater room - with private hot tub! I highly recommend it if you're looking for a way to spend some great one-on-one time together! Especially if you don't have the time to truly get away from Norman; The Montford Inn is a great way to stay close to home and reconnect!

Another First - Piano Recital

When I took my job at Wildcat Well Logging I knew that it would give my kids some opportunities that they had not or would not have otherwise. One of those would be music. When all the pieces started falling into place at the job, I began a search for an affordable piano. Once we found the piano and I was able to get him into the studio that I wanted; RTC started lessons in September.

In Norman quite a few of the music studios have a recital at Sooner Mall. It's a 3 day event where tons of kids show off their hard work. Everything from piano to string instruments. It's quite a nice event. Lots of really good talent is showcased. Gillam Music even let them borrow a super grand piano!

Since he was a 1st year student he wasn't required to participate in the recital but he said he was up for it! He didn't begin to be nervous until we got there and his name started getting to the top of the performance list. We were so pleased with his performance. He had good posture and an even pace - which is not his norm at home when practicing!

I have a 41 second video that wouldn't up load so a still shot is all I have in which to bore you!
